Practice evaluation (category 1)

  • Undertake a critical reflection on your research work and develop a plan for practice change. Potential topics for reflection include feedback from co-authors and reviewers (and areas for future improvements), progress with your research projects (for example: grant success), review of a recording of one of your formal research presentations, or impact of your research outcomesCheck out the Research Support Toolkit for more information on research metrics (for example: publication numbers, citations and H index).
  • Participate in a cultural safety activitySee the Support across work roles > Providing a culturally safe practice tab for more information with a view to better understanding cultural safety and implications for research practice. Following this activity, consider undertaking a critical reflection on what you have learnt and what it means for your practice.
  • Formally engage with a mentor to further your professional goals and research practice. Claim hours spent doing so under the mentoring activity.
  • If you participate in education research, ask a colleague to complete a peer review of educational practice, focusing on the educational research and scholarship domain.
  • Participate in a peer support group of self-selected peers with expertise and interest in research. Potential areas of focus for the group include research outputs and collaborations.
  • Conduct a practice audit (clinical support) relevant to your research practice. Potential topics for audit include research outcomes, grant success, career progress/aspirations or contrasting your practice against national standards.

Knowledge & skills (category 2)

  • Undertake a formal research qualification and claim time spent doing this under formal courses.

  • Enhance your research expertise by leading or contributing to research, claiming time spent under research (including grant proposals and trials).
  • Claim your peer review of manuscripts for journals/other publications under reviewer/editor of journal. Editorial review of manuscripts is also claimed under this category.
  • Review grant applications . Claim time spent doing this under reviewer, grant applications. Includes chairing or acting as a member of an ethics committee.
