ANZCA & FPM CPD Program resources: Case conference

The purpose of this guide is to provide fellows and CPD Program participants with information, suggestions and resourcing support specific to each of the programs activities. The target audience is those with clinical roles.

Activity: Case discussion/conferencing Practice evaluation - Reviewing performance

Case discussion/conferencing

  • Case presentation and discussion involving at least three participants (may be multidisciplinary) to review and determine best management options.

***

  • May be face-to-face or virtual
  • Each participant must contribute a case and actively participate in the discussion
  • Consider enlisting a minimum of two colleagues and develop a case discussion/conferencing group that meets regularly (for example: every three months). During the intervals between meetings, participants should note any interesting cases they could use as their contribution to the case discussion/conferencing group.

  • Undertake an online group discussion reviewing particular scenarios - for example: a Zoom meeting discussing compromised airway encounters
  • Undertake a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) case review - for example: on a complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) scenarios
  • Undertake a specific scope of practice case conference - for example: National Women's' Hospital Maternal Foetal Medicine case conference
  • Participate in a "round robin" discussion on new or unusual cases at your hospital
