ANZCA & FPM CPD Program resources: Mentoring

The purpose of this guide is to provide fellows and CPD Program participants with information, suggestions and resourcing support specific to each of the programs activities. The target audience is those with clinical roles.

Activity: Mentoring Practice evaluation - Reviewing performance

Mentoring

  • A series of meetings between two colleagues (mentor and mentee) working collaboratively towards achieving mutually defined goals to develop or strengthen the mentee’s professional skills, abilities, knowledge and thinking.

***

  • Skills may be clinical and/or clinical support related, and sessions may be face-to-face or virtual.
  • Although mentor and mentee may not both be CPD participants, where they are each can claim this activity towards CPD.

  • You may choose to undertake a critical reflection activity on the mentoring sessions and develop a plan for practice change.
  • This facilitates the participant ‘closing the loop’ by reflecting on specific actions they can undertake to improve their practice.
